Meet the Teacher

Hi! My name is Janie Pratt and I am a Special Education and Physical Education teacher in the Highmore Elementary School. This is my 6th year of teaching! I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, and spending time with my family and friends and collecting sunflowers.

I grew up and graduated from high school in Watertown, South Dakota. After high school, I moved to Vermillion and graduated from the University of South Dakota with degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education. My husband Mike and I were married on June 10, 2006. We live on a farm north east of Highmore. Mike graduated from Miller High School and Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He farms on his family farm. Mike and I enjoy going to races, visiting our family and friends, and working on our house!

My parents live in Watertown. My mom and dad work at Mahowald's Hardware. My dad is the manager and my mom is the office manager. When my parents aren't working at the hardware store they are either golfing, traveling, or spending time with my sister and I doing many projects. I have one sister who lives in Seattle Washington. She is a chemistry and math teacher. She is engaged to be married in July of 2007! Her fiancé, Derrick, is a pilot. They have a big puppy named Froggy.
